• Senator Bill Hagerty introduced legislation aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for stablecoins, marking the latest Republican effort to create crypto-friendly policies in line with President Donald Trump’s priorities.

  • The proposed bill seeks to provide a clear and predictable regulatory environment for stablecoins and digital assets.

• With reward to a regulatory framework, David Sacks, serving as President Donald Trump's crypto and AI czar, led a press conference alongside key congressional committee leaders to discuss the future of cryptocurrency.

  • Sacks will head a newly formed working group of financial regulators tasked with developing regulatory guidelines for U.S. digital assets and their issuers. 

• The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's newly created crypto task force, led by Republican Commissioner Hester Peirce, will work on distinguishing which "crypto assets" are securities, potentially changing ways for firms to register and work on providing clear statements when approving or disapproving exchange-traded products.

• Just days after announcing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, President Donald Trump agreed to postpone the measure for one month.

  • The decision came after Canadian and Mexican leaders pledged to strengthen border security, temporarily averting tariffs that could have raised prices for U.S. consumers and disrupted the economies of all three nations.

• President Trump signed an Executive Order, initiating the creation of a Sovereign Wealth Fund. 

  • The Order instructs the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Commerce to develop a comprehensive plan within 90 days. The plan will include recommendations on funding mechanisms, investment strategies, structural framework, and governance model.

• Beijing unveiled a sweeping set of economic countermeasures against the United States on Tuesday in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 10% tariffs on Chinese imports. 

  • The tariffs will take effect on February 10.

• Ethereum has achieved the necessary consensus to raise the network’s gas limit, with 50% of validators signaling in favor of the change to enhance scalability. 

  • Once the 50% threshold was reached, the block gas limit was automatically adjusted without requiring a hard fork.

• Tether’s latest attestation underscores its sustained dominance in the stablecoin market, reporting $13 billion in annual profits and a total issuance of $45 billion for 2024—one of its strongest years to date.

  • The Q4 2024 attestation also confirms a record $113 billion in U.S. Treasury holdings as of December 31, solidifying its status as the most capitalized and widely used stablecoin issuer.
