📈Macro Cryptocurrency News

• The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose more than anticipated in January, reinforcing the Federal Reserve’s stance that it is in no hurry to resume interest rate cuts amid growing economic uncertainty. 

  • According to data released by the Labor Department on Wednesday, CPI increased by 0.5% last month, following a 0.4% rise in December. On a year-over-year basis, inflation climbed to 3.0% in January, up from 2.9% in December.

• Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell pledged during a Senate hearing to address the "debanking" of legal business sectors, including digital assets.

  • He also acknowledged that crypto stablecoins "may have a big future" and expressed support for regulatory efforts in the space. 

• A group of investors led by Elon Musk submitted a $97.4 billion bid to acquire the nonprofit overseeing OpenAI, escalating the ongoing rivalry between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

  • Their offer was rebuffed and Altman responded by saying, "no thank you but we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

• Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has saved U.S. taxpayers $36.7 billion, sparking calls from crypto industry leaders for increased transparency in government spending through blockchain technology.

• Powell also assured U.S. lawmakers during a Senate Banking Committee meeting that the Fed would not issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC) under his leadership. His term is set to conclude in May 2026.

• North Carolina has become the 20th U.S. state to propose legislation for establishing a Bitcoin reserve.

  • The bill would permit the state treasurer to invest in cryptocurrencies with a market capitalization exceeding $750 billion.

• Grayscale has filed an application with the SEC for what would be the first-ever spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) tracking ADA, the native cryptocurrency of the Cardano blockchain and the ninth-largest digital asset by market value.

  • This development follows the SEC’s recent acknowledgment of Grayscale’s applications for Solana and Litecoin ETFs. 

• Caroline Pham, currently serving as acting head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), is advocating for a stablecoin-backed tokenization pilot program.

  • An upcoming summit on the initiative will feature executives from major digital asset firms, including Coinbase, Ripple, Circle, and Crypto.com.

• Microstrategy co-founder, Michael Saylor, announced his company had yet again purchased more Bitcoin–this acquisition was for 7,633 Bitcoin, or around $742 million, with an average price of $97,255 per coin.

• What is B3? B3 is the "on-chain miniclip," creating on-chain infrastructure through “gamechains” on Base. So far, they have announced two gamechains that will be launched on B3, which include Infinigods' Godchain and Parallel’s Primechain, with four more announcements in the pipeline. The team is ex-Base and raised $21 million, so it’s no wonder they secured a D1 Coinbase listing.
